In order to experience the best time camping, some essential gears must be brought with you. We will go over some important gears and things to wear to enjoy camping.
Granted it all depends on the location of your camping spot but here is the list of the must-have on any camping trip. We will also go over a list of what not to bring along to a camping trip.
Must Have Camping Gears
- Weather proof clothing
- One of the most important things to do while camping is staying warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather.
- You can accomplish this by wearing moisture-wicking or dri-fit clothing. You should also layer up to keep warm. Also, use a waterproof jacket just in case it decides to rain.
- Sleeping bag
- You should use a sleeping bag that can withstand cold temperatures because most places will be cold at night.
- Make sure you get the compact ones because having to carry around a large sleeping bag is not fun.
- Tent
- It depends on how many people you want to fit into the tent and how many air mattresses you want in the tent because air mattress will take up more space in the tent than just a sleeping bag. If you are doing a solo camping trip you should only use a solo tent because its easier to carry around, it’s more compact than a family tent.
- Lantern
- Get the one that runs off solar or propane, so you don’t have to carry extra batteries. The best lantern is the one that runs off propane because it’s brighter.
- Water bottle
- Get the bottle that is insulated like a Hydroflask because it can keep your water cold or hot longer. It will be easier to have one in the tent while you sleep so that you don’t have to get out of the tent for water in the middle of the night.
- Snacks
- You should always bring some snacks while you hike so that you can have enough energy. Some of the best snacks to bring on a hike is the trail mix. It has a little bit of everything for you.
- Cooking supplies
- There are a bunch of cooking supplies for camping some of the ones are multi utensils, pots/pans, and a grill grate to use over the campfire.
- Camping stove
- A camping stove is a must if you plan on cooking at all. It’s way easier and faster than cooking over the campfire. If you plan on going on a solo trip there’s solo stove so you don’t have to carry the large camping stove.
- Solar phone charger
- Even though you want to escape technology and be with nature some things like phones are still a must-have during a camping trip. Sooner or later your phone will need to charge and the best way to do it is with a solar phone charger. It’s the best way because you won’t need an outlet to recharge the phone charger.
- First aid kit
- Should always carry a first aid kit with you on the camping trip in case you get cut you can use it and not end up with an infection.
- Bug spray
- Should bring bug spray with you on all camping trips because there are a lot of diseases that are transmitted by mosquitoes and other bugs out there in nature.
- Wool socks
- The best type of socks to go camping with because its good for hiking then you can use it to keep warm at night while sleeping.
- Hiking boots
- This is the best way to protect your feet while camping and hiking. If you wear sandals for hiking, you’ll run a higher risk of some animals or bugs biting you on the feet. If you are camping where snakes are known to be in the location, you should definitely wear hiking boots.
- Water filter
- This is a must-have if you have limited water supply with you. You can filter river water and other natural water sources.
- Camera
- A good camera is a must if you want to remember the camping trip. GoPro is great for recording videos and takes pictures. It’s small, it can be waterproof when it’s in a case, and produce great quality video and picture. Plus, you can attach it to anything which will free up your hands while doing camping activities.
- Propane
- Small propane cans are great for the camping stove and for the lantern.
- Coolers
- This will help keep drinks cold and meat fresh. Of course, you’ll need to add ice
- Air mattress
- Best way to sleep while camping. Some people just use a sleeping bag to sleep but it’s way better to use an air mattress and sleeping bag so that you won’t be cold from the ground up.
- Electrical air pump
- This is needed for the air mattress
- External power station
- This is needed for the air mattress
- Firestarters
- This will help make the campfire faster and easier. The lighter fluid will also help make the campfire by accelerating the process.
- Pocket knife
- A great tool to carry around in case you want to cut something.
- Also good for defending yourself out in the wild if there is any animal that wants to attack you.
- Backpack
- A must-have for backpackers, those who backpack for days need a backpack designed for backpacking because it will hold more things than normal backpacks.
- On a regular camping trip its great to have a backpack too, you can store your clothes then when hiking you can leave your clothes in the tent then use the backpack to carry things for the trail.
- Axe
- You’ll need this for splitting up firewood because you’ll need smaller pieces to start the fire.
- Hammer
- A must-have for putting up the tent, you’ll need to use it for staking the tent down so that it won’t blow away.
- Folding chair
- So, you can sit around the campfire because standing all the time will not be fun.
- Flashlight
- To help see at night, mostly use for walking to the restroom at night. You could use it for night time hiking.

What NOT To Take Camping Trip
- Don’t bring jewelry or nice fancy clothing- There’s no point of wearing jewelry or fancy clothing while camping because you will get dirty or you will lose your jewelry.
- Don’t bring unnecessary electronics- You don’t need your laptop, computer, tablet, or ipod when camping because it just more junk you have to worry about. plus the whole point of camping is to get away from your everyday routine and it will be hard to do that with all the electronics.
- Don’t bring strong perfume or odor- You do not need to be smelling your best while camping, you just need deodorant. Plus, it will help keep unwanted animals away from you.
- Don’t pack denim- It might seem like a good idea to wear for camping but once it gets wet it will be very uncomfortable and it will take a long time for it to dry. Plus, the jeans are stiff and will make it hard to move around.
- Don’t wear white clothes- Worst color to wear when camping because you may fall in mud or while hiking you may brush up against plants that will stain your white clothes.
- Don’t bring huge stuff that you don’t want to carry back- If you carry big stuff with you on the trip you would have to take into consideration of how much space is left in your car for other things and is the huge thing necessary for the trip.
- Don’t bring a lot of shoes- You are going camping, its not a high-end event where you need to show off your shoes collection so pack the bare minimum, which is a hiking boots and a pair of sandals.
With all these gears mentioned above, your next camping trip will be safe and enjoyable. Remember to not bring unnecessary things with you on the camping trip so that it won’t slow you down. So, go out and enjoy nature and explore new places.
